Bydgoszcz Airport is planning to invest in the photovoltaic panels located on the airport's area which cannot be dedicated to "core business". Investment can be highly subsidised ( up to 80 %). The planned photovoltaic farm should have capacity of 25 MW.

Surprisingly, the energy produced is not planned to be an additional source of electricity to the airport - but is planned to be sold into the grid and support around 7.000 households in the area. It is said that if all the electricity was sold, operation can generate 21 mln zloty on annual basis.

The investments itself has pretty high cost, but can be highly subsidized. "Assuming that the cost of construction of 1 MW to 9 million zł, the total cost of building the wind farm will be 225 million zł. The grant can be up to 80 percent. the value of investments "-  estimates Joanna Sowińska, a spokeswoman of Airport in Bydgoszcz.

It is a first airport in Poland that has decided an investments in RES with the straight destination to participate on the wholesale market.
