Minister of Economy, Janusz Piechocinski
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Janusz PiechociƄski said that if European Commission will upheld proposal for reduction of CO2 by 40 %, on the EU summit next week, Poland will be forced to veto such proposal. Financial Times has already expressed its concerns in the article two days ago, but this is the first official statement on the matter, heard from the official.

The coming EU summit on the environmental matters will take place on October 23-24 in Brussels. The main purpose of the summit is identification of new targets in reducing CO2 emissions, after 2020.

The main concern of Minister of Economy, Piechocinski, is the level of involvement of EU in the environmental protection which, in his eyes, is not viable. He points out that such agreement on the European level does not bring much results, especially if there is no binding agreement on the global scale. The new targets will impose the guidelines to fulfill that might challenge Polish economic, Polish energy sector, Polish competitiveness on the international scale and Polish trade as such.

Minister Piechocinski promised to present exact reasons, why Poland is going to oppose the new targets, on the upcoming summit.
