Investment opportunites in the solar panels in Poland

1 comment :
Despite the fact that Poland is not particularly sunny country (in comparison to Southern Europe), there is a lot of investment in the sector of solar pannels. As if it was not surprising enough, there are many producers of instrumentation for clean production of electricity and heat, from the sun rays.

It is very important to differentiate traditional solar panels from photovoltaic solar panels. The main difference is type of energy collected. Solar thermal (commonly called solar panels) can only collect heat which is less useful then electricity and can't be sold to the utilities. On the contrary, photovoltaics are transforming sun rays into electricity that, in the favourable infrastructure having smart grid, can be sold to the grid (even by small producers, such as household). Solar thermal can be very efficient ( even 80% ) while photovoltaics are typically 15% to 20% efficient.
The functioning of a classical solar panel is simple, as well as its construction. Based on the information of Viessman (who has been building such collectors already in 1960s), I have designed the simple sketch presenting functioning of the solar panel (pretty simplified).

The absorber of the sun rays has one principle function – to collect the rays and transform them into the heat. This part of the panel is most often made of copper or aluminum, because they are capable of high heat conductivity. The task of the wire of heating medium (mostly glycol) is the efficient uptake of heat produced. Wires where the medium circulates are connected in parallel or 'snake' (more expensive, but more effective solution). The wires are connected to the battery.
The most important element , which determines the cost-effectiveness of solar collectors in Poland is the use of energy produced and what fuel was so far powered house .

From the data presented by one of the manufacturers of solar panels in Poland ( SonErgo ) shows that the average amount of energy that falls in our country to 1m2 per year, is 1,150 kWh. Exposure time of the sun throughout the year ranges from 1200-1700 hours. The map below presents the level of sun exposure in Poland during a year.
The most important point of reference in evaluating the investment of solar panels is our daily water consumption. Purchase of solar panels becomes profitable  at a daily water consumption of 250 L. It is also necessary to recalculate what are the costs of heating water consumption current heating system (in order to compare the savings). In summary, a great collectors will check and give savings and consume a lot of water daily .

Whoever takes into consideration installing solar panels in Poland, needs to take into account the fact that the largest solar heat gain will be achieved from spring to autumn ( flat plate collectors, as described on the picture ). Flat-plate collectors dominate in Poland over the vacuum solar panels (with pipes with vacuum), due to weather conditions. Despite the fact that vacuum solar panels can work in the winter time, created heat is not of such significance. Furthermore, vacuum solar panels have short guaranty period.

On the internet, there are many calculators that allow calculation of the profitability of the investment. What one needs to remember is the fact that installing solar panels (especially in regions with such medium sun exposure as Poland) it is rather a long-term investment and should be considered in a long time perspective.

  1. Now alongside comes the following expertise improvement, LED lighting. This new lighting is more expensive than what we now have had, however once more way more efficient. And it doesn't have the draw back of toxic elements. Comparatively, LEDs have a brighter light (larger lumens) than CFLs, they've an influence factor of .9 which means many of the energy is transformed into light (CFLs convert more of that power into warmth) and so they eat 30% less energy than CFLs.
