PGNiG : new strategies of development

Cire.pl : Centrum Informacji o Rynku Energii (the Information Centre of Energy Market) has published very interesting commentary of Andrzej Szczęśniak, the expert in the field of energy, on the changed in the steering committee of PGNiG.
Together with changing of the steering committee, the strategy of the group has changed. It has been observed that less money is being invested in the outsourcing and more into the storage. Szczęśniak estimates that the shift that took place this year, towards more investments in infrastructure, is a good decision of the company and of strategic significance. By improving the quality of the gas network, PGNiG should increase sales, although the change will be noticeable the next year or in two years.

In 2013, the group allocated 2.4 billion zloty in various activities. This year, the budget has shrank (to 1.9 billion zloty) but significant share of this amount will be invested in exploration, mainly in Poland, in 33 wells. 10 out of those are related to the shale gas.
But the strategy of allocating new budget is not the only things that doesn’t allow the steering committee members to sleep tight. The new Management Board of PGNiG is preparing for tough negotiations with Qatargas to supply liquefied natural gas terminal built in Swinoujscie (North-West Poland, at the border with Germany). According to Andrzej Szczesniak, there is a need of renegotiating the first delivery of the gas as the terminal is not finished. Previously scheduled at the end of June this year, at the moment, it is certain that the deliveries will not be possible. Instead of again discussing the price of LNG, it is worth planning new date for the first transfers from Qatar.
Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG, literally: Polish Petroleum and Gas Mining) is a Polish state-controlled oil and natural gas company, which deals with the exploration and production of natural gas and crude oil, natural gas import, storage and distribution and sales of natural gas and crude oil. PGNiG is one of the largest companies in Poland and is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange
