Official statemet towards new CO2 reduction targets
Minister of Economy, Janusz Piechocinski |
The coming EU summit on the environmental
matters will take place on October 23-24 in Brussels. The main purpose of the
summit is identification of new targets in reducing CO2 emissions, after 2020.
The
main concern of Minister of Economy, Piechocinski, is the level of involvement
of EU in the environmental protection which, in his eyes, is not viable. He
points out that such agreement on the European level does not bring much
results, especially if there is no binding agreement on the global scale. The
new targets will impose the guidelines to fulfill that might challenge Polish
economic, Polish energy sector, Polish competitiveness on the international
scale and Polish trade as such.
Minister
Piechocinski promised to present exact reasons, why Poland is going to oppose
the new targets, on the upcoming summit.
