Poland should not fear lack of gas supply in coming years
During the time of
crisis on the line Russia – Ukraine, Poland is always concerned about its
supply of gas. Apparently, as onet.pl points out, it seems that Poland can
import 70 % of its gas demand from the West.
In
recent years, has increased the possibility of receiving
technical gas from the West thanks to the construction of the interconnector with the Czech Republic
and expanding connections with Germany, but also with the launch of
the so-called “physical reverse” on the Yamal pipeline. Without this reversing of the pipeline, the
only possible physically flow was from east to west; after its implementation, gas
can be transmitted also in the opposite direction. Furthermore, there are
planned more interconnectors like that: with Slovakia and Lithuania.
Reversal
of the pipeline is significantly contributing to security of the gas supply.
Another important factor is the soon opening of the LNG terminal in
Swinoujscie. After starting of the operation of the terminal, the technical possibility of supplies from the West will exceed 100 percent of Polish demand for gas imports. LNG terminal will be able to annually receive 5 billion cubic
meters of natural gas.
Polish gas storage facilities are filled
(as reported by PGNiG) to 90 percent.
The total storage capacity of Polish is 2.5 billion
cubic meters.
Poland currently imports more than 11
billion cubic meters and consumes approx. 15 billion
cubic meters. Six of gas per year.
