Energy - commonly raised issue during presidential campaign
Upcoming presidential election ( May
10,2015 ) initiated the candidates for the presentation of their programs. The
issue of energy independence and recent discussions regarding EU climate
package, are those commonly raised.
One
of the candidates, Andrzej Duda representing “Law and Justice” conservative
party; in Polish: Prawo i Sprawiedliwosc), expressed strongly his opinion on
the energy related issued during press conference on March 14. According to the
presidential candidate, situation in which 2/3 of the gas is supplied from
Russia, is a real threat of eventual lack of supply, as it took place on
Ukraine. He points out that the climate package and the European tendency of decarbonisation
(translating into the decrease of usage of coal) threatens the sovereignty of
Polish economy, which is highly dependent on coal, and has a negative impact on
the competitiveness of the European economy to Russia, China and the United
States. Duda directly accused current president, Bronislaw Komorowski, to not
intervened on Gazoport case – described in detail in the note : http://polish-energy-blog.blogspot.it/2015/03/delays-of-construction-of-lng-terminal.html
The
presidential election will be held on May 10; if none of the candidates obtain
more than half of the valid votes, there will be second election round, on May
24.
