Optimistic future of Kazimierz-Juliusz coal mine
Onet.pl reports that
after 11 hours of negotiations, on Sunday September 28,2014 there has been
signed an agreement on the future of coal mine Kazimierz – Juliusz. The
dramatic situation of the mine has been described in the post “Another coal
mine faces financial difficulties“ available under the link: http://polish-energy-blog.blogspot.it/2014/09/another-coal-mine-faces-financial.html
Negotiations on the future of the mine took place in the Silesian Provincial Office from 4 pm on Saturday (
September 27). The miners discussed their concerns with
representatives of the Ministry of
Economy, representative of Prime Minister's Office
and representative of KHW, holding who
owns Kaziemierz-Juliusz mine. Consultation had turbulent beginning, as
the members of labor union did not want to proceed with negotiations, seeing
resistance of their interlocutors. Finally, document of agreement has been
signed at 3 a.m. during the night Saturday/Sunday.
The agreement is said to be a big
success for all the involved parties: miners as well as the representatives of
owning holding and government’ officials. According to the agreement, the
mine Kazimierz-Juliusz
will be still working. The plant will be
acquired by the Company
Restructuring Mines (Polish:
Spolka Restrukturyzacji Kopalni, SRK), which will extinguish its operation.
As pointed out
during negotiations, the acquisition of the mine
by SRK must
be preceded by an
amendment to the Law on the Functioning of Coal Mining. Entry
into force the amendments to the law
will allow funding of SRK at approx. 100
million zł, thanks to which the
miners of Kazimierz-Juliusz mine will be able to receive overdue wages until November
15 and will have guaranteed
housing.
